THUNDERBOLT:
LIFE AND LEGEND

Permanent Exhibit

Curated, designed and installed by award-winning 3-D Projects of Sydney, this exhibition occupies most of the museum’s top floor, yet allows the visitor an unhindered view of the whole marvellous space.

NEW GOLD MOUNTAIN:
THE CHINESE AT ROCKY RIVER

Permanent Exhibit

In 1982, almost by accident, a cache of Chinese artefacts was discovered in a shed in Tingha. The collection includes artefacts, including the altar, from a temple (Joss House) almost certainly originally from Rocky River, Uralla where, at the peak of the 1850-1880 Gold Rush, about a thousand Chinese suffered racist taunts as they laboured the diggings. The collection has been augmented with artefacts from the Armidale folk Museum and by private owners/lenders. It is of National Significance. There is a hauntingly eerie reconstruction of the interior of the Joss House.

A TRIBUTE TO THE ANAIWAN
Permanent Exhibit

A life-size diorama depicts an indigenous family preparing a meal beneath the moonlight. The exhibition also includes excellent weapons, implements, and hand woven goods. This is an evocative, silent apology to the Anaiwan people, the original owners of the land
